Type-based poster

This is my title
Some type of sub-title
For this project we had to design a poster for someone iconic: famous through movies or music, historical or fictional anyone we chose really but the image had to be picture free and we could only use type to illustrate it.

I had a lot of fun with this.

I had a lot of people in mind at first but got swung over with Holden Caulfield from Catcher in the rye when I found some really nice illustrations and with the words from J D Salinger thought I could do this great story and character justice.

Stanley Kubrick Im forever a fan of, his movies are amongst other things visually excellent so picking a scene or still from one of his movies would be the hard task- he loves the symmetry so i picked Lolita as its for me less obvious as a first impression of him and after reading the book recently I was in that zone.

-The 1st one isn't massively apparent which I quite like- the Rye strands and ears made from Rye (go figure) the catcher is a cobweb made from (you guessed it) the word Catcher.

-The image of Holden's deerstalker hat is from his quote about "being catcher in the Rye" which i  found fitting as its one of his distinguishing features.  There is use of the word 'Goddamn' something like 240 times in the book, and I love the slang he uses so i thought I'd get these in for his cigarette, spark and smoke.  He comes across as many things and one thing a bit analytical and can worry from time to time so the "worrying" quote rests well on his shoulders.  The main body is Baskerville old face and the title font is cracked- which I liked as it gives it some edge and depth.

-The Lolita poster is simplistic which I like it keeps a classic feel- the red and black on a white background stands out and colour to the green eye an purple lollipop bring attention to detail.  I thought about a nose or cheeks or background but thought this more effective.
